Carina's Journey Into Employment

The Salvation Army in partnership with Community Jobs Scotland provided Carina with an invaluable opportunity to undertake a paid six month placement within an office environment.

Carina Ip, aged 24, Community Jobs candidate said: “After job-seeking for six months and feeling somewhat dejected, this placement has allowed me to regain my independence and I now feel confident that I will be able to secure future employment.

“As well as working within a team where I am encouraged and supported every step of the way, I have also gained new experiences on a daily basis and been offered training to develop my skills.”

"After six months working with the wonderful team in Scotland, gaining exposure to a huge variety of experiences whilst learning and developing new skills, it was time for my Community Jobs Scotland placement to come to an end.

My immediate thoughts turned to applying for a role within The Salvation Army as I wanted to continue to work for this fantastic organisation. Soon after sending my application and attending an interview, I found myself ecstatically accepting an offer for a role in the Headquarters - in London. Packing my life into two suitcases and a five hour train journey later, I had arrived.

From day one the learning curve has been steep and I am continuing to develop and hone skills, learnt from my Community Jobs placement, once again feeling supported and encouraged by a great team.

I have no doubt that had I not been given the opportunity to undertake the Community Jobs placement with The Salvation Army in Scotland, I would not be where I am in London today. With renewed confidence, I look forward to seeing what this new year will bring."
